Providence Medical Technologist II in Seaside, Oregon

Description:

Providence is calling Medical Technologists II (1.0 FTE) to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR. Multiple openings.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Accurately follows the procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, recording and reporting patient test results.

  • Conducts established quality control (QC) procedures on analytical equipment, reagents, media, and products with appropriate documentation.

  • Correlates clinical, clerical, and technical data.

  • Reviews and evaluates test results for accuracy.

  • Recognizes testing problems including unexpected results or abnormal relationships of analytes and alerts senior personnel regarding discrepancy.

  • Recognizes and resolves instrument errors or sample problems; initiating and documenting corrective action.

  • May be required to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in the small and rural areas.

  • Engages productively in the evaluation of quality improvement opportunities.

  • Takes appropriate action on specimens with critical values and/or abnormal results.

  • Assists in the mentoring and training of new caregivers in the department.

  • Monitors the laboratory’s quality control functions by reviewing the quality control data and evaluating possible trends.

  • Ability to convey principles/methods of testing documentation of technical personnel competency.

  • May be required to perform phlebotomy and processing of specimens in all areas.

  • Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting with appropriate documentation.

  • Maintains appropriate levels of immediate supplies and reagents.

  • Performs special projects under direction of senior personnel.

  • Promptly and accurately documents problems and any corrective action taken using appropriate forms, logs, etc.

  • Participates in department meetings, responds to electronic communications (email).

  • Participates in group meetings or activities to identify, analyze, and resolve technical and procedural issues.

  • Mentors newer staff/students.

  • Evaluates and ensures the laboratory’s successful participation in external proficiency testing.

  • Performs special projects under director of senior personnel.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences;

  • 1 year experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or related occupation; and

  • National certification as Medical Technologist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT (ASCP) or as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP.
